Mid-Summer Writing, by Alan Ewing (2026)

Mid-Summer Writing
by Alan Ewing

SOLSTICE

A Midsummer's Love once came to me,
Then I knew her not
She felt like a breeze in the sunshine
That was her lot

I waited for the longest day to tell me,
How to win her back
Sad to say that it was all over for sure
Oh what did I lack?

I searched the earth for my summer love,
I wrestled with my heart
I got down on my knees and prayed to God
For her to play her part

I went from sunrise to sunset in my search,
For that lovely woman
I cried into a bumble bee's heart
For that beautiful loving

I'll wait until Winter Solstice and cry out loud,
I shall have no pride
I shall scream out on the shortest day
Maybe she'll be mine

Lost Star

So another new PM (Prime Minister)
What about about AM (anti-Minister)
All to do with BREXIT
A much lamented exit

We miss our European friends
Always ours till the end
Always preferred straight bananas
As I ate them in my pyjamas

Just a love of European culture
Because USA has become a vulture
No longer our friend done insane
As she betrays Ukraine

So let's have another glass of wine
And get rid of Farage's whine
Put division to bed
Let it be dead

So, another European Red
Better than BREXIT beer dread
Oh what a huge mistake
Let's have another take!

An Ode to Marilyn Monroe

100 years my dear

Star still so bright
Number 1 blonde
No fear
Of any other one

Your comedic ways
Oh for the age
A true woman
A feminine sage
Just Number 1

Always my gerl
In your humour
Always alone
Could never atone
For husbands

Oh my Marilyn
My lonely girl
I would give you
The world
To come live
With me

Marilyn World
All that it gave
Truly I knew
Your Love
As an old sage
I truly gave
All you meant to me

Division In The UK,
a lyric blog by Alan Ewing

Division In The UK

Oh my Lord

Can it be?

Such hatred

On the streets

As we see

A nation divided

Some try to

Hide it

When it is

Plain to see

Exploitative evil

Channels minds

Into violence

Carnage, hatred

Lowest denominator

Channel the sword

Take on armour

Needs as must

Challenge this way

Of a nightmare

Give us daily love

As we see minds

Fooled into discontent

Help us not to hold

Our minds for rent

 Kitchen Sink
 by Alan Ewing

It was said
Everything bar the kitchen sink
I don't want it
Because it is blocked up

 Has been said
Don't forget the hoover
I will
It does not pick up anymore

So is said
Remember the ironing board
I shall
It is too full of steam

Has been said
Remember your books
I might
They've all been read

As for myself
I may just forget it all
As I await
The page to turn

An Old Friend

An Old Friend

An old friend dropped in
Oh he always wanted to win
Never quite could in his game
Now I see he’s still the same

Do people change I ask you now?
Can a leopard change spots – how?
We look for traits that may have gone
All in disguise – so much a con

The ones who always let us down
Always point scoring for a crown
Take the knife behind your back
It is common empathy that they lack

So say hello and goodbye again
Trust long ago gone in the main
You see as they are now arriving
It is you they are undermining

People may not change much
Though times sure do have ways
To turn someone you once knew
Into a figment of the past, so true

An old friend in life
Or perhaps it wasn’t so?
Perhaps always an enemy
Who tried to play me

Dear Marilyn ...

Dear Marilyn,
I forgot to say
Adoration
All astray

Caught in celebrity
Oh what a day
When I forget
To say

I love you, I love you
Now it's been said
Some things forgotten
Through the day
Though never your way

Through it all
I always call you hun
Feel your caresses
When day is done

Dear Marilyn,
All my dreams true
When I adore you
In eternity
