The SOS Tapes 1981: music by Alan Ewing & Friends

THE SOS TAPES 1981
music by Alan Ewing & Friends

The Masonic, Liverpool

Logging this blog as a nod to 1981-82. Together with friends Simon Blackwell and Paul Wright, The SOS Tapes were recorded. So-called because they were recorded at Square-One Studios in Liverpool. Three of the tracks have survived the annals of time. They are able to be heard using the click to play button under their titles. In 1982 the three of us were joined by Nigel Blackwell for a gig at The Masonic in Liverpool. The guys would go on to form Half Man Half Biscuit. I made an appearance on Channel 4 at towards the end of 1982.

 (Alan Ewing)

Click lick above to stream LP

In the current sabbatical from social media by Barri Jill Zahn or 'BeeJay' as I affectionately call my American NYC musical twin and cohort (Bonnie & Clyde), The Erotic Dancer LP has been updated to include 'Six Of One': a track we were working on before her leave of absence. The track has been assembled from the cutting room floor, as it were, in order to extend this digital LP to nine tracks. This work, over the years with 'Beejay' has been a joy and a pleasure, and I look forward to welcoming her back soon.

One In Your Eye Lyric, A blog by Alan Ewing

One In You Eye Lyric,
 A blog by Alan Ewing

2026 brought the release of the Steve Kelly vinyl single

b/w

My contribution to the B-Side was as an original lyricist in 2012, Steve revising the song into a lament within 2026.

The lyrics can be followed here:

ONE IN YOUR EYE
Kelly/Ewing

Just a little old mood swinger
Only needs a cup of tea
Always being something new
But always very true

Can you see me for that I am
No not him, just me
Can you take me for what I am
Always the one in your eye

Here I go again playing a part
Daft as a brush as usual
Only fooling with your heart
But always very true

So you come from New York City
Well, he's a Liverpool boy
Really loves the way you talk
Always the one in his eye

Just a little old mood swinger
Only needs a cup of tea
Always being something new
But always very true

Thank you note from Steve Kelly

The Train Leaving Sanctuary, a lyric blog by Alan Ewing

The Train Leaving Sanctuary
a lyric blog by Alan Ewing

A beloved figure disappears on a distant horizon
While an enchanted being sends messages in the air
There is wisdom in the words of one who offers future meetings
But the road ahead is long and hard in its outlook

It's Time to take the train from sanctuary
And see what's on the other side
Time to move on and build anew
And come to terms with what's been left behind

Mist clings to the hills as emptiness fills the side of mountains
There is melancholy in the dew-drops as they fall from the trees
Autumn announces itself in the wind that whistles in the night
And Winter beckons as thoughts turn to the return of Sping

It's Time to take the train from sanctuary
And see what's on the other side
Time to move on and build anew
And come to terms with what's been left behind
